Background

Ottawa Mixed Media Artists emerged in response to a need for an Ottawa-based visual arts organization devoted solely to the burgeoning field of mixed media.

OMMA was formed in the Fall of 2001.  After two successful and well-received Members' Shows in early 2002 (Nepean Visual Arts Centre in January and Britannia Gallery in March) plus six general meetings, the inaugural meeting of the volunteer executive committee was held July 9, 2002 and OMMA was well on its way.

Vision Statement

OMMA is a group of visual artists working in an experimental and expressive manner, freely incorporating a variety of art media into their work, using traditional and innovative materials and methods. It's not unusual to find watercolour, acrylic, collage, ink, pastel, charcoal and more, in a single piece. Our work tends to be non-representational and abstract, though not always. Our motto is: "Artists with attitude".

As a group, our primary goal is to provide our members with opportunities for exhibiting their work and for further artistic development, in a spirit of mutual support and encouragement.

Another important goal is to provide art lovers in the community with the opportunity to connect with our contemporary and innovative work.

The Spirit of the group is:

- warm, friendly and enthusiastic

- open and informal

- collaborative and inclusive

- supportive and respectful

We make art with:

- a strong sense of design, colour and rhythm

- spontaneity and improvisation

- a willingness to explore and discover
